Accounting processes: monthly work to annual accounts

Use one chain of inputs, preparation, review and evidence instead of disconnected deadline reminders.

The short answer

A deadline tells you when work is due. A workflow shows which inputs, reconciliation and review must happen first. Separate the filing, payment and evidence steps, then connect them to a monthly close.

Find the dependency before assigning the date

Invoice collection feeds both VAT preparation and the invoice register, but those outputs need their own checks. Bank reconciliation can expose missing evidence before closing. Assign preparation and review separately so a task is not marked finished merely because the first draft exists. The guides below explain the control point for each process.

Keep the period distinct from the filing month

A return filed in one month may describe the previous month’s transactions. Record both values in the work item and in the evidence. Before using a recurring monthly workflow, confirm that the client actually has a monthly period and the relevant obligation. The Lithuania calendar supplies dated records and sources; it does not decide applicability for every business.

Review the relationship between outputs

Check discrepancies between the ledger, register and return rather than assuming they must always match without explanation. Payroll preparation should preserve approved inputs and separate reporting from payments. Store accepted submission evidence and unresolved exceptions so another reviewer can understand what was completed and what still needs attention.

Use monthly closing to make year-end easier

A month-end close should produce reviewed balances and a short exception list with owners. Annual accounts then start from a documented trail rather than twelve months of unanswered questions. Read VAT and payroll guides for the relevant workstream, reconciliation and close for shared controls, and the annual-accounts guide for year-end coordination. Verify current official instructions before acting on a filing rule.
